QuestionPro vs
Survey Everywhere

Different tools for different jobs — here's how to tell which one is yours.

QuestionPro positions itself for higher ed, but it stops short of what institutions actually need to deploy at scale — no confirmed native Canvas or Blackboard integration, and a 5-user minimum before team pricing even applies. Survey Everywhere is Canvas Certified out of the gate, with LTI 1.3 across every major LMS included in every subscription, not gated behind a seat minimum.

The bottom line

Survey Everywhere is the better choice for campus-wide use, LMS-native distribution built and maintained in-house, course evaluations, and teams that need faculty to launch surveys without training. QuestionPro is the better choice for research teams that want the widest range of question types and advanced research methods at a lower price than Qualtrics. The ease-of-use gap is significant: Survey Everywhere is designed for first-time builders; QuestionPro's advanced settings are widely reported as buried or clunky.

Which tool is right for you

The decision usually comes down to your use case, not the tools themselves. Here's a quick filter.

Choose...

Choose... comparison
Survey Everywhere if... QuestionPro if...
Faculty and staff need to launch surveys without training Your researchers need specialized methods and the widest range of question types
You want one vendor to build and support the LMS integration directly A partner-built LMS integration meets your requirements
You need course evaluations tied to rosters, with department roll-ups Your primary users are dedicated research staff rather than faculty and campus teams
ISO 27701 and WCAG 2.2 AA documentation are procurement requirements Accessibility and privacy documentation beyond Section 508 and ISO 27001 aren't the deciding factor
You also use Poll Everywhere and want one login, one LMS connection, and bundled savings You're migrating from Qualtrics and want to bring response history with you

How each tool performs by scenario

Both tools can handle a research survey. The differences show up in specific conditions. Below is a direct comparison across six common campus use cases.

comparison
Scenario Survey Everywhere QuestionPro
Course evaluations Yes — roster-aware delivery via LTI 1.3, anonymous aggregation by section, and department and college roll-ups. Yes — marketed for course evaluations with dean and department dashboards. LMS delivery runs through a new partner integration, so confirm roster and grade-passback behavior.
Faculty research study Yes — visual branching, piped text, loop and merge, and SPSS export, with no response caps. Built to launch in a single sitting. Very well — one of QuestionPro's strongest use cases. Deep question types and methods; advanced settings take time to learn.
Campus-wide deployment Yes — fixed-price campus license, role-based dashboards, SSO, and all four LMS integrations included. Yes — University Site License available. Confirm which features and support levels the site license includes.
New-student outreach Yes — welcome surveys and orientation check-ins delivered inside the LMS, with completion tracking by cohort. Yes — flexible distribution by email and link. Setup can feel heavy for quick check-ins.
Campus climate study Yes — multi-path logic, authenticated LMS or SAML responses, and anonymous aggregation where needed. Yes — strong logic and sentiment analysis. Reporting is less flexible, so heavy analysis is often exported elsewhere.
Alumni and advancement surveys Yes — branded surveys, RSVPs, and giving-interest segmentation from the same campus license. Yes — branding and distribution options are strong.

Video transcript – Survey Everywhere

0:00 Hello and welcome back. Uh, so we're looking at the survey tool market. Uh, we're doing some comparisons. This is Survey Everywhere and as the CEO of Poll Everywhere, uh, I have in fact seen this.

0:13 We built this tool. Uh, so I can't do a fresh once through, uh, here. I just want to admit that off the top.

0:21 I can, however, uh, run you guys through a similar workflow and show you what it looks like. Uh, so, of course, if we wanted to make a survey here, I've already logged in.

0:31 Uh, that process I didn't do in any of the other tools. So, this is where we start. So, we have Surveys and we have Teams and we have Course Evals and Courses.

0:39 Courses, of course, are connected to the LMS and Participant Groups would be something that you uploaded if you didn't have an LMS connection.

0:45 Uh, so if if I wanted to make a new survey. Uh, I can, of course, create it with AI. I can do so manually.

0:53 Uh, I can import a Qualtrics file. Uh, I'm going to insert some text from the Berkeley, uh, Center for Teaching and Learning.

1:02 A course evaluation survey from this data site. And we're going to go ahead and use the AI, so the AI is going to show us, uh, the pieces that it's working through along the way.

1:36 Okay, so I'm going to move this out of our way and see where we are. Okay. So it looks like this, uhm, we have men 1 to max 5, so it looks like, uh, the scales came in here positively.

1:56 Of course, we could change these if we wanted to, to, you know, just for a kind. Uhm, it split this survey into some open-ended, uh, on the second page and the scale questions on one page.

2:09 I like that layout, and we can, of course, visualize our overall layout if we want to. Uh, these are the pages, and if we needed to, we could add some branching here so if we wanted to add some branching logic, so if we had, if we wanted to go to the end of the survey when, say, something on the first

2:33 survey, so if these are, uh, well-designed, so if this is five out of five, then maybe you just want to go ahead and say, uh, that's good enough.

2:43 Uh, so if this is a five out of five, then we're gonna go ahead and skip to the end of the survey.

2:49 Uh, and now we can see the branch takes us around to the end of the survey, and they wouldn't fill out the open-ended feedback.

2:56 You probably wouldn't want to do this specific change, but this just gives you an idea of, uh, how this can work.

3:05 So we go back to the editor, uh, that's still there. Um, and you see the branch logic over here. Uh, and it also shows up at the bottom here.

3:15 Um, there is, of course, you know, a variety of ways to, uh, to add things, uh, manually. Um, so if you wanted to do that, you could click here.

3:26 Uh, we could, say, add different types of questions. Um, you can also go back to the AI assistant and ask it to do things.

3:37 Um, the first three questions on page one, rating questions, rather than scale ones.

3:51 Uh, so this is just showing you that not only can you get a jump start in creating the content that you need, but, uh, you can also use the AI to make edits.

4:03 Uh, and it looks like we, uh, updated these. So, now we have rating questions. So these are rate out of five stars.

4:12 Uh, and if we liked that, we could, of course, change the whole thing. Uh, if we wanted to preview the difference, uh, then this is what this looks like.

4:22 So you go through one at a time and you rate. Uhm, and so I think this looks, you know, kind of like what I expected.

4:30 So we built a course evaluation survey pretty quickly here. And if we go ahead and publish this, uhm, we can make a public link for it as well.

4:39 Uh, we can name it Public CE1. Uh, we could limit it to the organization. And we could, uh, put it into a course if we wanted to, or limit it to a participation group.

4:55 We could limit the time period of course, that would make sense for most course evaluation surveys. But for this one, we're just making a quick link.

5:02 Uh, so then if we copy that link, and we wanted to go check that out, uh, now we can do our Reading?

5:13 And I'm not reading these questions, but I'm assuming that, uh, we just need to get some answers in here, so we can see some of the other pieces here, uhm, well, uh, Cheeseburger selection is really what did it for me.

5:37 Uh, and then as far as what one change would most improvement, uhm, Bacon, yeah, I think that's the answer in this case, so, it's important feedback for the instructor, and now we have completed this, and if we go ahead and close, uh, that window, uh, we can go back to our, Oh, well, that's editing.

6:00 I think we can go back to our. Our survey, uhm, and so that's in the distribute, if we go back to build, we can see it, but now we have some results.

6:09 So if we take a look at our results, uh, we got a couple of, uh, participants, only one completed it, looks like somebody else loaded the link, maybe when we clicked on it a second to go, and you can see how it how they replied, uhm, how the distribution looks, uh, you can see by color breakdown what

6:33 this looks like, we can see the, the feedback there, uhm, we can break this down by participants, of course, we can also look by question, uh, let's see, we want to look at these, you know, MediR, open response questions, we can do that, can of course, uh, execute export this, or put it into a PDF, uh

6:53 , and then you can use all sorts of different tools to, uh, report on that, how you want it to, SPSS, uh, you can put it into other packages, or like R as well, uh, and so that is, uh, putting together a course evaluation survey in Survey Everywhere, uh, we think that, uh, Atlassian, how it's connected

7:14 with the LMSs, built with those from the beginning, uh, some of the ease of use here, some of the design features, we really, we tried to find some of the best design ideas and surveys that we could, and combine those with some of the insights from higher education with our partners, uh, and we're really

7:32 excited about what we have for you guys, uh, and, yeah, that's gonna do it for today. Survey Everywhere, uhm, and hopefully you're as excited about this part of the platform as we are.

7:43 Thanks.

Our CEO tries Question Pro for the first time — unedited, no prep, no retakes.

Video transcript – QuestionPro

0:02 Welcome back. Uh, and now we have question pro. So we've done a few of these and we're sort of ascending from some of the free options to some of the more premium options in these surveys based where you might make something like a course evaluation or research survey.

0:17 Uh, and uh, here we are with question pro. They do a bit of both of those things from what I understand.

0:24 Uh, and I just created an account. I used a Google account. And I can browse. some templates here. This is an audience evaluation.

0:37 Can we find? I don't. Oh, maybe education. Voice of this student seems different. What's could start a trial. I'm gonna have to block out my phone number now.

0:54 Okay. Well, I guess we could, that's not not useful either. I'm going to have to block that out. Cue, make a survey and I'm hoping out.

1:08 So it looks like I need to upgrade to advanced in order to use the service feature. It looks like that would be $11, $1,200 a year.

1:22 Not going to, oh, I could try it. Maybe I could try it. Okay, so I have to, I have to put in, I can start my trial, okay, cool, great, well trial it is, I suppose this doesn't give you an excellent view of what you can do with question pro and a free account, but I'm going to go ahead and presume at

1:50 the question pro level that most of you folks are interested in an evaluation of question pro that would include and paid features, the ones that we've done so far, Google, Microsoft, and SurveyMonkey, I think are more well known for being free tools, whereas I don't believe that's true of QuestionPro

2:10 . Okay, so I'm going to describe a survey, and in this case, I have a quiet a bit from clawed that I can dump in here and send and yeah I pulled the online center for teaching excellence I believe from Berkeley's information yeah C.T.L.

2:36 here from Berkeley so this is a course evaluation survey built from what Berkeley recommend. It doesn't have everything and they have a number of options.

2:51 So I am including a good number of those and try to create a mix and that's okay.

3:01 So I need to select these in order to add them. So I'm gonna go ahead and do all of them.

3:09 I'm gonna add my 31 questions and again 31 would have been too many for like server monkey was limited quite a bit.

3:15 We can have a thank you page and a footer. I'm curious when I'm here if I if I had a okay so I'm gonna have to use this and I get a variables but okay well we'll save that for now.

3:30 I was curious if AI could help me with that as well it doesn't look like it here but that was pretty smooth the AI made a lot of questions it you know I'll say that this is an equation, we can have multiple lines in there, I can add my logo, I've got a QR code, and it looks like I might be able to, oh

3:58 , that's odd because I didn't upgrade, but I did do my trial, so it's expecting to be able to distribute this, but okay, so now we can maybe upgrade our looks a little bit okay and then we could choose to make something more accessible looks like that one's just a black and white specifically so they

4:23 don't necessarily do accessibility on some of these other color options I could add some media I could add languages is that's pretty cool.

4:37 That's a lot going on. This looks great. I don't really need to send that. What does this do? This is a preview I suppose.

4:50 Okay. I'm very okay with doing a preview and hopefully we can get through this quickly and it will give me some reporting data.

5:04 It's interesting that we the AI did not successfully take the double asterisks and make it bold or emphasized in any way.

5:11 I'm not analyzing the course evaluation questions in a template here because the template will I provided via Berkeley's Center for Teaching Excellence and so I think these are going to meet the criteria since I was using that on some of the free option templates.

5:32 Quite a few questions. I believe there were 30 and maybe I should have trimmed that down. This is going to be a little repetitive but we can cut some of this out.

5:40 But it's pretty cool to have this on in place. Okay, there's our thank you page. Very cool. Great, we have the one response so we can see where.

5:53 That's an interesting Top choice here for the dashboard as far as where it goes again pie charts really rather see a donut I do like that it has both here given the use of space though I probably would like to see this next to the donut.

6:13 I think Microsoft did this really well honestly But this is totally understandable. This is totally serviceable and Yeah, I love that they have both, I just think the space usage would be slightly better if they were side-by-side, particularly with this kind of question, but maybe, you know, for a mobile

6:37 layout or some other places, like that space just wouldn't be there for that. Okay, so that's all those. And that is, I think, all I needed to go through with question pro so we very quickly made a really simple course evaluation survey.

6:57 We used AI, we got some reporting, some of the defaults here seem totally fine, there's a decent summary, it's focused on geography.

7:09 While we didn't have a template specific to Orcival that was obvious to me. It was easy to use AI with the upgrade or the trial.

7:19 I do think that that trial is going to be a little you know too much for most folks that are doing free surveys and I would imagine you'd probably look at some of those other options like Google or Microsoft or even SurveyMonkey for a free survey, I think what you really be after here with question pro

7:42 is all these integrations, right? So you can connect with lots of different places to get data in or out. And I believe as you go up, you'd also be able to integrate with some of the other things that I mentioned before where you can integrate with your CRM, integrate with some of your student data.

8:01 So I think that's where things would be really interesting and you know there's an API here as well, so I think that's where you would get into question pro really shine But that's gonna do it for question pro and thanks for joining us.

8:15 We got a few more of these to do

Pricing and limits

Survey Everywhere:

Campus-wide deployments are priced better than other survey platforms, with greater savings when bundled with Poll Everywhere. Everything in the Pricing & Licensing table above is included in the campus license.

QuestionPro:

QuestionPro's free plan supports one user and 200 responses per survey. Paid plans are priced per user with annual response allowances; SPSS export starts on the Advanced plan. Academic pricing is quote-only, and a University Site License offers unlimited questions and responses with individual user accounts. LMS integration pricing is not published.

What usually triggers a procurement conversation:

Procurement typically enters when a campus needs SSO, a site license, LMS integration, or accessibility and privacy documentation. Note that QuestionPro's SOC 2 Type 2 report covers its data center provider rather than the company itself. Confirm audit scope and VPAT availability when comparing side by side.

Switching between Survey Everywhere and QuestionPro

Moving from QuestionPro to Survey Everywhere:

Survey Everywhere can import surveys from other tools and uses AI to keep logic and page breaks intact as you move. Most teams review each migrated survey before launch; the main investment is time, not complexity. Export past response data from QuestionPro before your contract ends.

Moving from Survey Everywhere to QuestionPro:

QuestionPro's Migration Center imports from Qualtrics and SurveyMonkey, but not directly from Survey Everywhere, so surveys would be rebuilt. Survey Everywhere results export cleanly to SPSS and Excel. If your use case is shifting toward specialized research methods rather than campus-wide use, the tradeoff is losing in-house LMS integration and ease of use in exchange for deeper research tooling.
